CheckIn.com
Development Stalled!
I am sorry to inform that as for missing funding the development of CheckIn.com has been (temporarily) discontinued.
For the Australian hotel portal go to http://www.checkin.com.au/
The idea has been to create a travel trade database of standardized information, using the XML-structures specified by the Open Travel Alliance. Unfortunately - and as the business plan already addressed - the data used in the travel industry is of extremely bad quality. To use it, a lot of manual review and enhancement is required, which would require expensive editorial work. You can neither "outsource" this "cheap", but need to have people for the job with experience in the travel industry.

Despite major efforts and support by strong supporters from the travel industry as well as business angels, I have been unable to secure the necessary funding to professionally set this up. Regretfully, I am forced to dump this idea I still find a necessity to make the travel industry truly "Web 2.0"-ready.
Based on a former idea, I currently consider to relaunch it as a (trade only) Wiki, complimenting Wikipedia with address information and a source for free images and multimedia. But in order to do this, I must first of all set up the Wiki, then the template pages (to assure a common look and ability to access the information). And that requires spare time in short supply today...
Thank you for your understanding!
